What is Niche Blogging?
niche – noun. A distinct segment of a market.
blog – noun. A personal chronological log of thoughts published on a Web page.
Simply defined, niche (pronounced “nitch” or “neesh,” depending on where you live) blogging is writing about a particular subject, and publishing that work online.
Blogs became popular years ago, when people started keeping online journals –which they called weblogs, later shortened to “blogs”– about their personal lives. With the advent of affiliate marketing and ads, bloggers realized that money could be made online. While some very popular bloggers were/are able to earn income online by continuing to write about their personal lives, most realized that a greater income could be made by writing about distinct topics (niches).
Being a niche blogger involves writing a regularly-updated online journal about a particular subject. The subject of a niche blog can be about literally anything you can think of. If you’re interested in it, chances are there are others out there who are interested in it, too, and they will become your readers.
The more specific your niche is, the better your chances of success will be. This is especially true if you’re just starting out, because you don’t yet know about the ins and outs of blogging. As a newbie, it will be a very hard learning curve if you choose a topic that is already saturated because you’ll be competing with well-seasoned veterans who have been in the field for years.
